SouthernX was founded by Ghaleb Cachalia, formerly a businessman, entrepreneur, strategy and private equity professional and politician in South Africa, serving in various shadow ministries, most recently as Shadow Minister for Public Enterprises. At the core of our team lies a dynamic blend of seasoned professionals with an extensive array of expertise that underpins our advisory and transaction-facilitation services.
We harness well-over a over a century of combined experience in strategic consulting, investment banking, private equity, legal advocacy, and entrepreneurial leadership, extending across diverse sectors such as Technology, Media, Telecommunications (TMT), FMCG, Financial Services, Mining, Luxury Goods, Energy, and Legal Services.
Our team has carved out opportunities for investors and guided businesses through the intricacies of mergers, acquisitions, and private equity. These decades of hands-on experience in South Africa and beyond make us adept at identifying and nurturing growth potential for discerning investors.

Ghaleb Cachalia
Ghaleb was educated at Waterford in Swaziland, Atlantic College in Wales and at the University of London, where he obtained a BA (hons). He has considerable experience, gained over some 40 years in running varied businesses, for own account, in partnership, as senior management and at managing director/chairman/board level.
Ivo Sarges
Ivo Sarges
With 25 years in strategic consulting, Ivo has guided corporates and public sector entities across Europe, Africa, and the Middle East. Launching his career post-graduate school in Germany in 1997, he joined Dicke & Wicharz, a McKinsey offspring focusing on the Chemical industry. He then progressed to Michael Porter’s Monitor Group, and subsequently transitioned to South Africa, serving diverse sectors on a global scale.
Erin Richards
Erin Richards
Erin is primarily a constitutional, administrative and regulatory lawyer who has successfully litigated precedent setting cases of up to ZAR 70 billion. She has appeared in the Constitutional Court, the Supreme Court of Appeal, the High Courts, the Labour Court, the Labour Appeal Court, and the Competition Commission.
